The Foundation of Trust

The pioneer who began the journey.

The journey of Shobha Cards & Arts is deeply connected with the entrepreneurial vision of Late Sh. G.D. Gupta, also referred to as Late Shri Ghanshyam Dass Gupta. His belief in honest trade, commitment to customers and respect for relationships became the foundation on which the organisation was built.

What began with publications, stationery and scientific goods evolved into a presence in Chawri Bazar’s paper trade, card manufacturing and eventually the establishment of M/s Shobha Cards & Arts in 1969.

Timeline

From foundation years to modern trade.

Our history reflects product innovation, supplier partnerships, market expansion and continuous adaptation with India’s paper and packaging industry.

1957–1969

The Foundation Years

Late Shri Ghanshyam Dass Gupta began his entrepreneurial journey in 1957 with a business in publications, stationery and scientific goods. In 1967, he ventured into Chawri Bazar, the heart of Delhi’s paper trade, and started manufacturing cards. This vision materialised into the formal establishment of M/s Shobha Cards & Arts in 1969 as a wedding card manufacturing business.

1970–1996

A Legacy of Innovation

By the mid-1980s, the group had emerged as one of the largest importers of Ivory Board, Brief Card, Cardboard and Stamping Foil in India. During this period, we pioneered the launch of Cast Coated Paper & Board and Art Paper & Board from Asia Pulp & Paper (APP), Indonesia, in the Indian market. We also introduced imported coloured boards, setting new trends in the industry.

1997–2006

Partnerships and Growth

In 1997, when APP Indonesia established its manufacturing unit in India under the name Sinar Mas, we became the authorised distributor for North India. By 2001, the baton was passed to M/s Ballarpur Industries Ltd. (BILT), and during this time our turnover grew exponentially. Further success followed when we secured the agency for M/s Hindustan Paper Corporation (HPC), India’s largest uncoated paper mills.

2007–2017

Expanding Horizons

In 2007, we became an authorised distributor of M/s JK Paper Ltd, emerging as one of their largest channel partners for Packaging and Coated Units. When M/s Century Pulp & Paper launched their board machine, we played a pivotal role in establishing their products in the packaging segment, further solidifying our leadership in the industry.
